Thank you to all of the great riders who participated in this year's Pedal for Medals ride. Four great days of scenic riding and some of the nicest folks on this planet...what more can you ask for?

I must admit I could have done without the rain on both Thursday and Saturday. Saturday it really opened up on us but we all persisted and finally the sun shone. It's good that we are not made of sugar!

My arm is getting better. I can lift it higher...getting there. The bruise has finally surfaced and it's a beaut. I even got one on the right side of my butt. I guess the old body really landed pretty solidly on the parking lot at the Best Western. Oh well, who hasn't had one of those dumb accidents?

The ride was great and everyone did a fine job once again. Melissa has sent out surveys to everyone and we hope you will all fill them out and send them back so that we can see what you thought about the ride. The committee strives every year to learn from the previous year's ride just what we can improve upon. This year will be no different. we'll be meeting soon to start planning for the 2009 ride.

Special thanks to Melissa for jumping in with both feet and picking up the tasks when Joe Valenti moved on. Also, thanks to Julie for all her help on the ride. A big "thank you" to all the volunteers. We could not have done it with out you. Nice job, well done to everyone.

There is an old saying that goes..."strangers are only friends you haven't met". Each year I think of that when I meet the new ride group and every year it holds true. We all develop great friendships by the time we get back to Dwyer Park. It's a great feeling.

Here's to seeing you all again at next year's ride...along with your friends.

tony

Thank you Tony! I am working on getting my blurb posted to sum up the ride, should be up on Monday. Also, I have 3 discs of pictures I am mailing out on Monday to Andrejs to have up and posted on our site. I sent a few already, but we have PLENTY more. Glad to hear that you are healing up! Only about 15 surveys have come back to me so please riders get those in asap so we can make next year even better than this one! Have a wonderful weekend!

Thanks a million to the entire ride committee for putting together a super ride. This years ride rose to a new level of organization and attention to detail. Thanks to all of the "in kind sponsors" along the route that provided meals and all of the other amenities. Thanks Ken for the wash jobs. Thanks Rob for the "back tune up" in Evans Mills. Thanks Tommy for all of the fun and entertainment (Mustang Sally). Thanks Mark for putting up with me! Thanks Tara for not spitting on me! Can someone hold off on the Saturday thunder/lightning/rain for next year! Thanks to all of the riders, I had a blast, you are all my biker family! I am starting to finally "heal up". Remember come up to Oswego on September 20th for the 10Kan bike race. It will be a mini ride reunion and a real fun 20 mile bike race. Go to www.10Kanrun.com. Mike "rimes with bike" LaPoint.

In the future, you should consider having the event after the school year is over and I would think you would get some additional participants. I know my wife and I would of been interested if it was later.

Bruce:
We're sorry that the dates don't work for you this year. We generally schedule it for the last weekend in June to beat out the the July 4th week as well as the bugs up north. Last year it did fall outside of the school season.

If you would really like to ride, I'm sure we could work out something for Saturday and Sunday. Also, this year we are offering a one day ride on Sunday that is a metric century. If you are interested in either option, please get back to us.

I added the stages to my profile on Map My Ride. They are in the public section and available to anyone interested (you don't have to register). You can go to
http://www.mapmyride.com and select search for rides, search with a keyword of Pedal for Medals. The maps have elevation changes, cues and print out well. I've begun using map my ride quite a lot. If you are traveling somewhere and need a ride its a great source.
I'll See Everyone In June,

BILL M

Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year. Also looking forward to seeing some new faces. Also, some great news, on Day 3, we will have access to the Belleville Fire Station for our water stop, which means that we will have real restrooms to use if needed. The new route into Watertown is looking great, and the detours in Oswego and around Marcellus look like they will work out well. Looking forward to a great ride this year!!

The ride committee met on Monday of this week. The ride is really starting to get some momentum. There are already 27 riders signed up. That's great!

The committee met to select the fabrics for this year's ride clothing. To create more incentive for riders to raise more money for the ride, the committee decided to provide plateau awards for various amounts raised. These awards are cycling clothes with the ride logos. Everyone can use more cycling clothes and these are good looking.

This info will soon be updated on this website, but for those who want to know now, the riders will be awarded the following clothing items: bike socks, shorts, jersey and vest jacket. These awards kick in at $800, $1100, $1500 and $2000 respectively. The awards are cumulative so that anyone reaching the $2000 level will have a full ride kit. For those who do not qualify for the awards, ride clothing will be for sale during the ride.

In addition to the clothing awards, we will also raffle off a new Iron Horse Triumph 3 road bike that was donated for the ride. Every rider has at least one chance in the raffle. Additional raffle chances will be awarded based on dollars raised and new riders brought into the ride.

If you have just been looking at this ride, why not register and get yourself a reserved spot. Don't be disappointed.
Register now and get started on your donations early...before everyone else gets to your friends.

The Ride Committee had a great meeting last week. It was agreed that riders who register before March 31, 2008 will receive a free tee shirt. Joe Valenti of SO has been working on the design and it sounds like it will be another great tee to add to your collection. If you are reading this and have not yet registered...get in there and sign up and you will receive the tee shirt...as long as you do it before March 31st.

There are also some other neat things planned that we hope to firm up at the next committee meeting. We'll share them with everyone once they are locked up and finalized.

Keep pedaling on those trainers!!!

At the last ride committee meeting, the group agreed to offer a one-day ride option on the last day of the ride. This was planned for many people who would like to ride but can't get the time off. The one day ride will be a metric century from Oswego to Dwyer Park in Preble. These Sunday riders will enjoy all the same benefits as those provided to the 4-day riders including all the rest/water stops, full SAG and EMT and the chicken barbecue at the end of the ride. So, all you busy-but-wanting-to-ride folks out there...mark you calendars for Sunday June 29th and do your metric century for Special Olympics. Watch this web site for more details and registration information.
